Traditionally used in herbal medicine:

Herbal Constituents:
Calendula contains: *xanthophylls (oxygenated carotenoids) such as lutein.
Lutein protects eye tissue such as macula lutea of the retina from UV/oxidative damage. Xanthophylls are low-polarity antioxidants.
*Heteropolysaccharides called arabinogalactans are part of Calendula.
These constituents have immunostimulant & anti-inflammatory properties.

*Carotenes: supports visual pigments in the eyes. Alpha & Beta carotenes and 𝜷-cryptoxanthin (a xanthophyll) are three carotenoids
