*Cyanidin, a type of anthocyanidin, which provides the blue or purple colour in many flowers & fruits including Elderberries, Aronia berries, blackberries, blueberries, bilberries & black currants. When ingested in the diet or taken as therapeutic substance, the anthocyanins encourage apoptosis of cancer cells & discourage metastasis (i.e. they are carcinostatic). Researchers have identified anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, & venotonic properties in these compounds, which have been used historically to help improve night vision.
*Oligomeric proanthocyanidins (OPCs) have antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, cardiotonic, astringent & anti-microbial properties.
